Geoffrey Shuttleworth BURGAN was born in McLaren Flat, South Australia on 7th July, 1916
His parents were Charles BURGAN & Mary Caroline FIELD
He enlisted in Adelaide on 17th August, 1940 with the Royal Australian Air Force
Geoffrey died during a flying battle in India on 9th April, 1942 whilst serving with the No. 11 Squadron RAF in a Blenheim Fighter Aircraft (Z7896) - death was presumed as his body was never found - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial, the Singapore Memorial, & the Prisoner of War Memorial in Ballarat
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) on 7th April, 1942
Citation: "This officer has shown outstanding keenness and ability during the campaign in the Western Desert. On one occasion he was shot down and taken prisoner but displaying great daring and initiative, he succeeded in escaping and brough back much valuable information"
