Son of Frederick and Mabel Lucy Sampson of Port Pirie, South Australia.
F -Sgt. Frederick Richard ("Scotty") Sampson, 29, who was previously reported missing in air operations over Paris on April 27 is now reported by the German authorities through Geneva Red Cross to have lost his life on that date. P-Sgt. Sampson was wireless operator on a Halifax bomber. He was the youngest son of Mrs. M. L. Sampson, of Alfred street, Howetown, Port Pirie, and the late Mr. Fred Sampson, a South African War and Gallipoli veteran. Educated at the Pirie High School, he was a skilled swimmer and diver, a member of the Pirie Motor Cycle Club and the Pirie West Homing Club. At the time of his enlistment he was employed by the BHP at Whyalla He was secretary of the Whyalla Homing Society.
