Son of Mrs. B. STOYEL of Unley, SA.  John was married with one child and resided at 4 Gray Street, Norwood.  Educated at Unley Public School and Unley High School he played cricket, football and tennis for Church Association teams.  In civil life he was a boilermaker's assistant and worked at Whyalla for 2 years.  He was called up in July 1941 and trained at Mt. Breckan, Parafield, Pt Cook and Mount Gambier.
