After Discharge Don went back to working for the Commonwealth Railways relocating to Alice Springs NT.
He Married in Alice Springs and his wife was also born in Quorn SA before also moving to Alice Springs with her family.They had three children.
Don was a very good sportsman playing A Grade Football,Cricket and later in life Golf. To his credit he won Best and Fairest trophies in football and finals flags.
Eventually he left the railways in the late sixties to Manage clubs such as the Alice Springs golf club,RSL sub branch at Westies Football club.
Over the years before his death he became a very respected person for his contribution to sport and in general for his service in the hospitality industry.
