William Henry Adams was born on the 18th of November, 1897 in Thargomindah, Queensland. He was the son of John Yoinie and Jane Adams. He was also the brother of Sergeant Vivian Douglas Adams. Vivian died in action on the 22nd of November, 1915. The Adams family lived in South Brisbane. Adams attended school at Caboolture State School, Queensland. Before William joined the war, he had an occupation as a motor mechanic.
At the age of 16, William enlisted to serve in the First World War as a trooper on the 4th of September 1914. He was assigned to the 2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment. This unit was raised at Enoggera, Queensland on the 18th of August 1914. The recruits involved in the 2nd came from mainly Queensland but some also came from New South Wales. The 2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment came from one of three regiments featured in the 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment. In war, Adams final rank was as a trooper and his service was with the Australian Imperial Force. His service number was 611.
William Henry Adams was killed in action on the 13th of May, 1915 at Gallipoli. While killed in action, there is no detail regarding what caused his death. He is laid at the Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey.
