"...428 Second Corporal William Palmerston Barker, No 2 Section, Railway Unit... A fireman from South Yarra, Victoria prior to enlistment, 2nd Cpl Barker embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Ballarat on 10 February 1917. Whilst in England he fell from a moving train, breaking his left leg in five places. This left him with a deformed leg which was shorter than the other and he returned to Australia on 1 November 1917 and was medically discharged..." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
