George William WILSON
George was the oldest of 6 children of Rupert Eva and Helen WILSON. He was born at Williamstown, 1907 where his father ran a garage and he attended Williamstown Primary School. After working for 6 years in his father's garage and another 8 years in a country garage, he moved with his wife Myrtle to Blanchetown where he established himself as a professional fisherman.
He applied to become a fitter with the airforce and listed his wife Myrtle as his next of kin and stated he had two children, John William WILSON and Marjorie Helen WILSON.
After acceptance, George undertook training at the No.1 Engineering School, RAAF Showgrounds, Ascot Vale, Victoria and then as a corporal, George successfully completed a 3 week Conversion Course on Liberator Aircraft at Tocumwal, NSW, February and March 1944 with a pass of 87%. He was promoted to sergeant in December, 1944 and his record notes he was stationed at Darwin, 1945.
His son, John William WILSON enlisted in the Navy, 1st June, 1943 at Port Adelaide, PA4170.
George died in Adelaide, 22 December, 1961 and is buried with his wife Myrtle at Tabor Cemetery, Tanunda
