Stephen Lawrence McLennan was the son of Mary Anne de Hayr. He was working as a farm labourer in the Pine District when he enlisted in September 1915. Stephen was Mentioned in Despatches published in the 'London Gazette' No. 31448 (11 July 1919)
'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 124 (30 October 1919). On his return from the war he worked at Terrors Creek and married Mary Elizabeth Chambers in May 1922. The couple remained in the Pine District living at Ocean View, Laceys Creek and Dayboro. Stephen's half-brother, Gregory [3672], enlisted as well.
