Warrant Officer II Hubert Wesley Harris (Service No:WX4091) initially served in the Milita (Trooper; Service No:Ve462119) attached to 25th Light Horse (Machine Gun) Regiment Merredin from 9 March 1939 to 7 November 1939. He enlisted in the AIF on 15 June 1940 with 2/2 Machine Gun Regiment and embarked from Fremantle for the Middle East on 16 April 1941 with 2nd/3rd Machine Gun Battalion. Promoted to Corporal on 29 October 1941 he then served with 2/2 Australian HQ Guard Battalion and embarked from the Middle East for Fremantle as a Sergeant on 6 March 1943. WOII Harris was Discharged on 29 December 1944.
Hubert's Death records indicate he was the son of Arthur Grace (b1871 in Sydney, NSW) and Eva Matthews (b1876 in Moonta, South Australia) who married in Broken Hill, NSW in 1898. Hubert provided two different birth dates in his Attestation Papers - 12 May 1899 and 12 May 1901 - both in Broken Hill - the offical record is for Hubert Wesley Grace born in 1899. Hubert stated in his Attestation Papers that he had served in the NSW Militia in 1915/1919 - there does not appear to be any official record. Hubert appears in the Electoral Rolls in 1924 in Wyndham in the Kimberley in WA working as a Labourer. By 1928 he was working in Perth as a Bus Driver and by 1930 was in Merredin working as a Truck Driver. In 1931 Hubert married Pansy May Peters (b1908 in Northam, WA). Hubert and Pansy settled in Merredin WA where Hubert worked as a Truck Driver and Depot Superintendent at the Vacuum Oil Coy. In the mid 1950s Hubert and Pansy moved to Fremantle WA where Hubert was a Clerk. Pansy died in 1975 and Hubert in 1980.
