Lancelot Oswald Sperling Coad was born on the 13th of January 1891 and enlisted in the war when he was 25 years of age. He embarked on the Aeneas with the 32nd Infantry Battalion as a Private on the 11th of April 1916. He fought with the 32nd Infantry Battalion for 2 years. On the 21st of September 1917, he was promoted to Lance Corporal. Coad was accidentally injured in a train accident while serving on the 16th of December. There was an investigation into it but dismissed as the train was being driven by a French soldier. On 21/03/1918 Lance Corporal Coad was injured while serving. He suffered a gunshot wound (G.S.W) to the right arm and toe and was admitted to the hospital. He was eventually discharged from 13/04/1918 to 21/09/1918. He later enlisted in World War 2 as a Private to the 10th Battalion VDC, which was Volunteer Defence Corps when he was 51. This was for ex-servicemen to participate in the war without having to be in battle. He served in the VDC until the 21st of December 1942 when he was discharged. He eventually died on the 15th of November 1975 from an unknown cause.
