Biography contributed by Thomas More College

Kevin Robert Mullen, born in 1901 to parents late William Patrick Mullen and Julia Ann Carrig in Port Augusta, he attended Christian Brothers College, Muirden College and Adelaide University, leading him to become a pharmaceutical chemist. His life took a turn when he sadly lost his two sisters during an air strike in Darwin in 1942 which may have triggered him to enlist in the Volunteer Defence Corps in April.

According to a letter in his service record, Mullen served under wing commander C. Matulic and after he got discharged due to manpower shortage in September 1942 he rejoined the VDC exemplifying his commitment. He was formally discharged from service in October 1945

After the war, Mullen joined and participated in the ex-servicemen association. Mullen passed away on May 6, 1953, in Unley and was buried in West Terrace Cemetery.
