Old Pirie Soldier For Instructional Camp
WILL LEAVE PIRIE TODAY
Mr. R. W. Arnold, of Pirie West, who will leave today for a refresher course at the staff instructors' camp, enlisted on Thursday at Keswick, and will be attached to the Second A.I.F. Training Depot.
Mr. Arnold, who was of the First A.I.F., served abroad for four years with the 13th Machine Gun Company. He is well remembered by the older Pirieans who served when compulsory training was in operation prior to and in the early stages of the last war. He was a commissioned officer then of the 81st Infantry.
His return to active military service was a result of an invitation from headquarters, asking the co-operation of fit returned men to assist in training the new A.I.F. Mr. Arnold is a son of Mrs. A. H. Arnold, Laureate street. A brother, Mr. A. E. Arnold, of Alexander street also served in the First A.I.F. and was severely wounded on two occasions. Another brother, Walter, made the supreme sacrifice, being killed at the battle for Nauroy Junction on September 29, 1918.
For the past three years Mr. Arnold has been a railways carpenter in Pirie, and on occasion has assisted the Fire Brigade as an auxiliary fireman.
