Private Frederick Dillon Horsell 1759 of the Field Ambulance enlisted under the name of Dillon Frederick Horsell on 22 September 1915
He embarked on 18 November 1915 with the 1st Light Horse Brigade / 3rd Light Horse Regiment aboard HMAT Geelong A2 and later transferred to the Field Ambulance
The Nominal Roll shows that Dillon Frederick Horsell 1759 of the Field Ambulance as RTA (Returning to Australia) on 24 July 1919 aboard the ship Dongola
Frederick Dillon Horsell S212822 served in WW2 with the VDC - born 14 August 1892
His brother was Trooper August Wilfred Horsell 2890 of the 3rd Light Horse Regiment (born 1894) who enlisted in June 1915 under the alias Frederick Dillon Horsell after having previously enlisted and being discharged as unsuitable for service. He reverted to his proper name in June 1918
August Wilfred Horsell 2890 was RTA on 17 July 1919 aboard the ship Dunluce Castle but died in Keswick Hospital in June 1920 due to service-related illness
Note 1 - The NAA digitized service file “HORSELL Frerick Dillon [HORSELL August Wilfred] Service Number 2890” actually contains all WW1 records for August Wilfred (aka FD) 2890 and Frederick Dillon (aka DF) 1759

Note 2 - the father of AW & FD was James Horsell (1875 - 1930) who served in WW1 with the 1st Remount Unit from September 1915 to November 1916 - Regimental Number 620
