Son of Thomas Adcock, Ropsley, Grantham, Lincolnshire, England
John Thomas Adcock was born in July 1893 at Rospley, Lincolnshire, and educated at the Rospley Public School and the Grantham Technical College. He arived in Australia in 1919, and three years later was appointed to the reading staff of the Sydney Morning Herald Newspaper.
At the end of the year 1915 he enlisted, and was drafted to the 25th battery of the 7th Field Artillery. He sailed from Australia in May, 1916, and after about six months' further training in England went to France. He was first in action at Armentieres early in January, 1917, and took part in the engagement at Messines Ridge in the following June, and was also at Passchendaele. He was in the operations of the Somme from March, 1918, till the end of hostilities. He returned to Australian on 24th October 1919 per 'Euripides'.
