When Crawford Eric Banks was born on 10 July 1910 in South Australia, his father, Arthur, was 40 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 39. He was one of 9 children.

Crawford married Esther Eileen Cahill on 2 June 1932 in his hometown, to current knowledge they did not have any children.

Crawford enlisted in the Army for WWII on 17 Jan 1942. Private Banks, S52638, was a Signalman.

He died on 2 August 1995 at the age of 85, and was buried in Berri, South Australia.
