Alfred returned from War with shrapnel wounds to his back, that caused him to be badly hunched in later life
He worked in the Australian Outback with camels, where he inherited his nickname of Afghan.
Alf lived with, and was cared for, by one of his sisters in Whyalla, South Australia, until his death at 74.
Alfred was one of 11 children.
