Herbert Gentle, (NO 165) was born in a small town called Randwick, in Sydney NSW. Gentle joined on the 17th of August 1914, and was considered fit for active service on the 21st of August 1914 in his home town of Randwick. Gentle was 23 years and 5 month old when he embarked on the 18th of October 1914. He was a natural born british subject, with his trade being a Labourer. Gentle served in the Camel Corps during World War One and had served 2 years in the colonial forces. He was quite a small soldier weighing 10 st. 10 lbs and sanding at 5 feet and 6 and a half inches. Gentle was not married during the war but did get married after to his wife Florence Willow. Sadly Herbert Gentle passed away in the year of 1964 at 73 years of age.
