“Killed outright by a 5.9 while holding the line at Polygon Wood. Buried in the trench.” 1619 T.J. Batiste C Company 58th Battalion.
His older brother, 236 Sergeant William Wallace Bentley Allen, 9th Battalion was killed during the Gallipoli landing on 25 April 1915.
Charles's father had died in 1912. His sister filled out his roll of honour form and stated,
"This young soldier was the only support of his widowed mother and when his brother was reported missing on Gallipoli, determined to take his place and go on with the work so nobly begun."

He was 29 and the son of Jane McDonald Allen, of "Arlie," Hurd St., Portland, Victoria, and the late Charles Allen. Native of Hamilton, Victoria. His brother, Sergeant William Wallace Bentley Allen, also aged 29 fell, too. He served with the 9th Bn. , Service Number 236. He was killed in action 25th April 1915 at Gallipoli
