Son of Simon Bishop and Jane James
Stated to be 49 year of age at enlistment in 1915, but apparently aged 62 at the time.
His discharge was approved after his commanding officer stated that he had given "twelve months' service in the field having never been off duty, but is now feeling his years... I personally know that when he offered his services in Australia he did so simply to set an example which had a good effect on recruiting in his district. His four sons have also joined up, two have been wounded. Sapper Bishop has at all times shown dedication to duty and set a fine example for the younger men.." - Major James Douglas Henry (/explore/people/279665)
