Vivian Smith lived in Beachport, SA and trained at Keswick where he enlisted in the AIF. His unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A2 Geelong on 18 November 1915. He was wounded at Fromelles and, after recovering from his wound, transferred to the Army Service Corps in 1917. He survived the war and returned to Australia. He died on 26 December 1970.
