Son of Mr and Mrs H.A. ABBOTT of Mayfair Street, Maylands. Educated at Wellington Road and Norwood Central Schools, Roy followed outdoor sport and was fond swimming. In civilian life he was a butcher by trade with Morphett's Meat Stores, Maylands for several years and was residing at 22 Edmund Street, Norwood with his wife and son (born 1942). He joined the Militia in December 1940 and after six months' training was transferred from the 10th to the 3rd Infantry Regiment.
