Louis Edward McCreanor joined the CMF (Citizens Military Forces) in 1940 when he was 19. His discharge certificate shows that he was officially called up for full time training in September 1941, but Louis said by that time he had done almost 12 months training and been promoted to Corporal. By early 1942 he had been promoted to Sergeant. Louis applied for and was approved to serve overseas, but was retained to help train those who had been called up for compulsory Military Service. Louis was one of the 'Darwin Defenders' and said "I left home as a teenager and returned home hopefully as a more mature responsible adult". Louis was highly regarded and respected in the community and loved by all who knew him. He lived a life full of love for his family, was dedicated to his religion and an enthusiastic and successful viticulturist. Louis Edward McCreanor died two months after his 90th birthday in November 2011.
