Sapper Edward Henry Elson (Service No:SX18868) first served with the Militia (Private; Service No:S26143) with 48th Battalion Victoria from 18 December 1939 to 30 June 1941. Sapper Elson then served with the AIF, enlisting on 25 September 1942 with 2/10 Battalion. He served in New Guinea (20 December 1942 to 15 February 1944 and 10 January 1945 to 2 May 1946) with 13th and 2/14th Field Coys. Sapper Elson was attached to 2/14th Field Coy at Discharge on 17 May 1946.
The eldest of five children, Harry was born in 1919 in Adelaide, South Australia to Clarence George Kennion Elson (b1895 at Port Lincoln, South Australia) and Mary Teresa Day (b1897 in Broken Hill, NSW). Clarence (a Labourer) and Mary married in 1919 in Adelaide, South Australia and by the 1920s lived in Walleroo where Clarence was a Labourer before moving to Adelaide in the 1940s.
Harry worked as a Moulder before enlisting, and following his Discharge settled in Adelaide where he married Yvonne Daphne Birch (b1923 in Semaphore, South Australia) - Yvonne served in the RAAF in WWII (Corporal; Service No:91957). Harry died in 1998 and Yvonne in 2011.
