Bronte Herbert Leslie CASTLE was born on 10th November, 1920 in Parkside, South Australia

His parents were Herbert CASTLE and Lillian Isabel LOMMAN

He enlisted in Wayville, SA on 8th April, 1942

Bronte was Killed in Action on 1st July, 1945 during "Operation Oboe" and is buried in Labuan War Cemetery - there is a memorial headstone for him at Swan Reach Cemetery in South Australia where his father is also buried

Inscription on both reads:

"A FEARLESS AND NOBLE SACRIFICE FOR HIS KING AND COUNTRY"

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and the Roll of Honour in Adelaide, SA

Mrs. L .I. Sharman of Moonta Mines, has been notified that her third son, Lance Corporal Bronte Herbert Leslie Castle, was killed in action in Pacific operations on July, 1, L/Cpl Castle was the third son of Mrs. Sharman and the late Herbert Castle of Blanchetown.

He was born in 1920 and lived before his enlistment on the farm with his brothers. He left for service overseas in April, 1942 and saw service in several theatres of war in the Pacific.

Killed in Action

Mrs. L. I. Sharman of Moonta Mines has been notified that her son, L/Cpl Bronte Castle, has been killed in action in the Pacific Islands. He was born at North Adelaide and was educated at Paisley School near Blanchetown. He saw service twice in New Guinea

Prior to enlistment he was engaged in farming with his brothers at Blanchetown

He was a member of the Congregational Church at Paisley and a memorial service has been arranged in his honour.
