Son of Ray Sylva Cox and Myrtle Amyria Cox; husband of Doreen Cox, of Victor Harbour, South Australia.
HE SACRIFICED HIMSELF FOR THOSE HE LOVED... ALWAYS REMEMBERED
Pte Cox enlisted in January 1942 and in July was transferred to 2/3 Machine Gun Battalion. He arrived in New Guinea on 10 December 1944. In May 1945 was detached to the 2/6 Cavalry Commando Regiment, returning in June to the 2/3 Machine Gun Battalion. Pte Cox was killed in action at Aitape, New Guinea, on 23 July 1945. He was 29 years of age.

Private W. L. (Bill) Cox, who was killed in action at Wewak N.G., on 23rd July, was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Cox, of Victor Harbour. Prior to joining the A.I.F. four years ago he was connected with the building trade, being emloyed by Mr. W. Pearce. Private Cox was a prominent athlete and was an excellent swimmer. He won a swim through Rosewater and on many occasions he successluly represented Victor Harbour Amateur Club at the City Baths and later at the Olympic Pool in various events. He also competed in races conducted by the local amateur cycling club. He leaves a widow (for merly Miss Dorecn Carroll, of Victor Harbour and one child, Colin. On behalf of our readers we wish to express regret to the bereaved family in their tragic loss.
