Residing at 36 Bishop Place, Kensington, Maurice was married. Educated at Richmond Public School, he played soccer and was interested in boxing. He was keen on all electrical work and learned cabinet making. Maurice was Assistant Operator in the Picture Theatre at Richmond for five years and worked at Matthias' Furniture Factory, later joining Mr Clayton of Unley. He enlisted in June 1941.
