Eric was taken on strength by the 2/10th Battalion from the 18 Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 25th of January 1942 whilst at the JULIS camp in Palestine. However the Battalion soon returned to Australia arriving on the 29th of March 1942. Eric moved with the Battalion via Sandy Creek in SA to Kilcoy in Qld. However on the 2nd of June 1942 he was transferred to HQ of the 7th Australian Division.
