Son of Mrs L.M. BARNES.
Husband of Amber BARNES of 52 East Street, Brompton, SA. Married with one child, Ronald was educated at Wirrulla Public School Eyre Peninsula and was interested in cricket and tennis. He played football for Wirrulla for several seasons. In civilian life he farmed at Wirrulla for many hears and enlisted in Streaky Bay in January 1941. He came to Adelaide and trained at Wayville and left in April 1941 for the Middle East. Ronald fought in the Desert right up to Toburk, then transferred to Syria until he returned to Australia.
