SERVICE WITH THE GLENELG LIFE SAVING CLUB
Malcolm Schottelius was an active member of the Glenelg Life Saving Club during the late 30s. He gained his Bronze Medallion in 1936 and was subsequently "selected to be trained for the Inter State team for Centenary Carnivals".
Malcolm had two cousins who were farmers at Coonalpyn in South Australia. Albert Gordon Schottelius (Jack) was killed in action in New Guinea in 1943, while Arthur William Schottelius (Pat) died illness earlier that year.
Malcolm was a single and lived in Unley, SA – probably with his parents. He worked as a bank clerk prior to joining the AIF. He died on 16 June 1941 at the age of 26 from injuries sustained from a motor cycle accident whilst transporting a message between posts.
