While this soldier's date of death is officially recorded as 25 April 1915, several eye witnesses, plus a letter dated 8 May 1915 subsequently produced by the family, confirm that Pte 511 George William Wood in fact survived the Gallipoil landing and was instead killed in action on 8 May 1915 during the 2nd Brigade's assault on Krithia.
Page 15 of the soldier's service record also confirms such in writing by the army, however too late to change the "offical" record apparently. This soldiers name should therefore be recorded on the Cape Helles Memorial, not the Lone Pine Memorial.
