Son of Mr and Mrs Tom TAYLOR of Forestville, SA. Married with three children residing at 26 Sheldon Street, Norwood, Roy was 39 years old when he enlisted in WW2. Educated at Flinders Street Public School Adelaide, in civilian life he worked with Holdens for several years as a motor trimmer. Enlisting in June 1940, he left Australia in November 1940 and fought through the desert campaign to Bardia and Tobruk, and after its capture was transferred to Palestine. He then fought through the Grecian Campaign and taken prisoner of war. Initially reported missing, several months later news came that he was a prisoner in Germany at Stalag 18a Camp on the Austrian border. Two brothers fought in the Great War, one was killed and the other returned after the armistice.
