Alan mcMillian joined the RSL in 1943. Before joining the Sub Branch at Aldgate in 1950, he had been a memnber in the following branches, Colonel Light Gardens, Willunga, State and Snowtown. Alan served on the executive from 1958 when he joined the committee he also was elected to this position in 1959,1975-76. He was the secretary 1963,64,66,67,68,69,70,71. He then went on to be the Auitor fro 1972-73. Alan was also a delegate to the Sub branch Conference for many years. As a member of the Tobruk Association he was treasurer for 2 years and welfare officer for 1 year. He gave 16 years service to the Emergency fire Service at Aldgate and was their treasurer for 15 years. Member of the Aldgate Memorial Hall committee for 5 years and again he was treasurer for 3 years. He was awarded a Life membership of the RSL in 1977 for his work in the community and his support of returned services.
