A witness (Pte EE Clew 6th Btn) reported that Cpl Stonely was hit by machine gun fire during the charge at Cape Helles (Krithia) and that he received six bullet wounds to his chest.
Cpl Stonely is also remembered at the Queenscliff Memorial Garden, Vic.
