Son of Albert Vigor and Sarah Vigor of Battle-road, St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex, England. Brother of Robert Vigor who returned to Australia on 23 June 1920 having served with the 25th Battalion and the Provost Corps.

Commenced return to Australia on 9 August 1919 aboard HT Ceramic disembarking on 3 October 1919

Medals: 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

During 1920c John married Ethel Knight in Cobar, NSW.
