Son of the late Mr and Mrs W.D. FRANCIS of Rosewater Gardens, SA.
Husband of Edith Helena FRANCIS of 30 Palmerston Road, North Unley, SA
Educated at Pennington Public school, Roy played football for school clubs and was keen on hunting and fishing. In civilian life he worked as as furnaceman at varoius factories, and at the time of enlistment in May 1940 he was employed at Pope Products Limited. Residing at 26 Sussex Street, Lower North Adelaide he trained at Woodside and left Australia in October 1940 and fought through the Western Desert Campaign and returned to Australia with his Battalion in March 1942.
