Add my storyBiography contributed by Gary Lloyd
Bruce was educated at St. Peter's College, Adelaide. He was a good sport and represented or captained the school in Rifles, Cricket, Football and Athletics. He enlisted in the Light Horse on his 17th birthday and saw action in Egypt, Palestine and Jordan. He was demobilised to England in March 1919 where he studied wool classing in Bradford, returning to Australia and joining Biggin and Ayrton in Melbourne, later becoming a partner. He married Janet Fordyce in 1924 and had 3 daughters. Bruce was a very well respected member of the Peninsula Country Golf Club, becoming Captain, President, and Honorary Life Member. He suffered from emphacaema as a result of fairly heavy smoking and from the dust in the wool sheds. He considered retiring in 1951 with the sole responsibility for the Melbourne office during the war years adding to the strain. Bruce suffered a heart attack whilst he was visiting Adelaide and then had a stroke shortly after which resulted in him being in a wheelchair. Bruce died in Melbourne in May 1971 at the age of 71.
