His parents were Josiah Smith CHELLEW & Elizabeth Martin (Bessie) MARA who married in Broken Hill in 1905

He married Lillian Alice RUSHFORTH in South Australia in 1924

The Advertiser (Adelaide, SA: 1931 - 1954) Wednesday 6 January 1943

Mrs. L. A. Chellew, of Byrnes street, Brooklyn Park, has been notified that her husband, Pte. H. C. Chellew, AIF, was killed in action in New Guinea on December 24. Pte. Chellew was employed in the SAR before enlisting. He was the eldest son of Mrs. H. H. Martin, of Terowie.
