The Last Flight
RAAF Pilot 404823 SGT Keith Alexander Andrew (24) married of Crows Nest QLD was the pilot of Hampden bomber P5326 that took off from RAF Station Wigsley to carry out an air test in preparation for the night’s mission. Immediately after take-off the port engine failed causing the aircraft to bank steeply to port before diving into the ground and exploding.
SGT Andrew was killed in the crash and is buried in Grave A.5 of the Thurlby (St Germain) Church Yard, Lincolnshire, UK. He is also remembered at Location 106 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra ACT.
