Flying Officer Baster 400035 in Kittyhawk AK656 of 3SQN RAAF was killed when his aircraft was shot down in the Agedabia - El Agheila area of Libya - his body was not recovered and he is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt
He was part of a group of ten Kittyhawk fighters from 3SQN that intercepted a force of over 40 enemy fighters - five Italian air force Macchi C.200 fighters & two Fiat C.R.42 biplanes were shot down in the ensuing battle but Flying Officer Baster was the sole Australian loss
