10 Squadron Mount Batten. Plane was searching for another air crew drifting in a dinghy when attacked by enemy aircraft. Plane lost height immedaitely and made a good landing on the sea but on completion of its run blew up and disappeared. There were no survivors

Sgt P M. Benison a member of the Sunderland Flying-boat 10th Squadron, shot down during searching operations on the evening of June 21 is now officially presumed dead. He was mentioned recently as the outstanding winner in the RAAF 10th Squadron athletic team at an athletic sports meeting in England between Navy, Army and Air Force in Melbourne before his enlistment Sgt Benison had a good tennis record. He played in special B grade pennant with Fitzroy and could havegone on to A Grade but preferred to remain with his clubmates. After joining the RAAF he turned to athletics and in a Fighting Forces championship at Melbourne Cricket-ground was 4th against a field of champions.
