Victor Herbert BETTIENS was born on 16th June, 1901 in Gin Gin, Queensland
His parents were Julius Dethief BETTIENS and Amy AUSTIN who married in Gin Gin on 12th December, 1882 - His father came from Prussia & his mother from England - they had 12 known children
He married Alexandria May STALLON in 1921 - divorced 1930
Victor enlisted in Cairns on 20th February, 1942 & was living in Stratford at the time
He died from injuries caused by a speeding car hitting his bicycle on 12th July, 1942 in Cairns and is buried in the Manunda (Martyn Street Cemetery in Cairns
His funeral left St Johns Church in Cairns and members of the 15th Garrison formed a guard of honour

1. Frederick George BETTIENS (SN 2361) served in WW1 and returned to Australia in 1919 - he also served in WW2 (SN Q208223) & was discharged in 1945
2. Andrew Edward BETTIENS (SN Q208242) served in WW2 and was discharged in 1945
