GRANVILLE MAN LOST ON H.M.A.S. VAMPIRE
Among the seven members of the crew of H.M.A.S. Vampire who lost their lives when the ship was lost following enemy action in the Bay of Bengal, was Stoker George Allen Blakeney (21), of Granville.
He was the younger son of Mrs. Mary Blakeney, of Woodville-road.
Stoker Blakeney joined the R.A.N. two years ago, and saw service on several vessels at Greece, Crete, and Tobruk.
In peace-time his main interest was boxing. Several times he fought at Parramatta Stadium. His brother, Roy, is serving with the A.I.F.
