Stanley was member of the staff of the Bank of New South Wales, Bairnsdale. He was educated at Ararat High School, where he was head prefect.
Corporal Stanley C. Burke, eldest son of Councillor and Mrs R.J. Burke, of Ararat, died on January 19, 1944, while a prisoner of Japan in Siam.
Cpl Burke had sailed for Malaya in 1944, and was attached to the 2/10th Royal Australian Engineers. Sapper Stanley Cameron Burke became a prisoner of war following the fall of Singapore in February 1942. Sapper Stanley Cameron Burke, 2/10 Field Company, RAE, he died of illness in Thailand on 29 January 1944.
"VX29141 Sapper Stanley Cameron Burke, 2/10 Field Company, RAE, of Ararat, Vic. He was a bank clerk prior to enlisting in June 1940. Spr Burke became a prisoner of war following the fall of Singapore in February 1942. He died of illness in Thailand on 29 January 1944. Spr Burke was 26 years of age.
