Court of Inquiry conducted on 11th October 1943 in Mareeba, Queensland noted several factors which may have contributed to the collapse whilst swimming and subsequence death of Warrant Officer William Campbell at 18.00 hours, 3rd October 1943.
: - The deceased had eaten his evening meal on the day of the fatally, less than an hour before swimming.
: - He ran the 700 yards to the Public Swimming Pool from the Army Camp.
: - The depth of water and lack of light at the time hindered efforts for a successful recovery.
