LAC Clarke was one of the trainee pilots in the Avro Anson R-3350, No.4 Service Flight Training School, when the Instructor piloting the aircraft crashed on takeoff after hitting a tree on the boundary of the Georgina Satellite airstrip. LAC Clarke was killed in the crash.
