ROSEWOOD, October 22.—At a military hospital on October 6, the death took place of Staff-Sergeant Norman F. Coote, a former resident of Rosewood. For several years Mr. Coote was Manager of Nolan's Pharmacy, Rosewood. He was President of the Rosewood Sub-branch of the R.S.S.A.I.L.A. while in Rosewood, and he took an active interest in the Show Society. He was a member of the Patriotic Committee, and an enthusiastic worker in all patriotic efforts organised in the town. The late Staff-Sergt. Coote was a native of Toowoomba, and was educated at the East State and Toowoomba Grammar Schools. At the outbreak of the Great War in 1914 he enlisted in the 3rd Field Ambulance, and served on Gallipoli and in France until the Armistice in 1918. On his return to civil life he completed his studies as a chemist, and owned and managed chemistry businesses at Toowoomba, Innisfall, Rosewood, and Maleny. He enlisted in the present war, and was serving as a chemist at an Australian Military Hospital, with the rank of Staff-Sergeant, at the time of his death. He is survived by his widow, who is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Dines, Toowoomba, and one son, Mervyn Norman. Mr. C. H. Coote, Manager of the Commonwealth Savings Bank, at Stone's Corner, Brisbane, is a brother, and his three sisters are Mrs. J. Eadie (Chelmer), Mrs. W. Kettle (Warwick), and Mrs. W. McLennan (Toowoomba). A funeral with full military honours was accorded the late Staff-Sergeant Coote.
