Son of Leonard and Ivy Vera Edna Courtney; husband of Isobel Therese Courtney, of Baan Baa, New South Wales, Australia.
Plaen was Hamden AM 148. 455 Sqaudron. Plane was returned after target practice with the Navy. While returning smoke was seen to be coming from the starboard engine. Pilot jettisoned the torpedo and the plane slawoly gained height and made good progress for nearly an hour then it was seen to lose and at 600 feet the plane went into a spin and crashed in to the sea. Accompanying plane saw no survivors
