Captain Dwyer was one of four brothers born to William and Alice Dwyer of Chatswood, NSW. All four brothers, volunteered to fight in the Second World War with Kenneth the only one not returning home.
Before the war he attended North Sydney Boys High School and after being educated, became a salesman making a reasonable living selling office machinery. When war broke out he quickly enlisted and attained the rank of Captain in a very short space of time.
He served in various campaigns in the Middle East with distinction and is mentioned several times in the book “Six Years in Support – Official History of 2/1st Australian Field Regiment” by DSO Brigadier AG Hanson and Major EV Haywood. He was killed by an exploding bomb during a German aerial attack at a railway yard near the village of Kravasaras, south of Thermopylae in Greece. It should be noted that he was the only officer casualty of his regiment.
