BRISBANE, Thursday.-
Trooper Harry Matthews, of an Australian armoured regiment, was charged at a court-martial to day with the manslaughter of two soldiers during training exercises near Southport last March. He was also charged with conduct
prejudicial to good order and military discipline. The two soldiers who were killed were Trooper John Merrick McNamee and Trooper Benjamin Noel Evans. Trooper George McAllister Cfn, John Denis Kildea, and Matthews were
injured. According to the charges,Matthews negligently pressed the trigger of a 3-lnch howitzer of a tank without first ensuring that the bore was clear. Matthews pleaded not, guilty to both charges.
