Sergeant Alastair Mackay Greenfield was the Son of Angus Mackay Greenfield and Florence Maud Greenfield, (née Troup) of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia.

Sergeant Greenfield was a gunner on the 158 Squadron Halifax bomber W1040 on a mission to the city of Duisburg, Ruhr area, Western Germany.  The aircraft was attacked  and damaged by a night fighter and then making a forced landing in a polder (field) in central Netherlands.
